![]() I agreed to a premium price of $50, understanding that someone connected to the hotel, etc. We had asked the front desk to recommend a driver to Canoa and she said they had someone "connected to the hotel" who was very good and spoke some English. Dinner was mediocre and breakfast was less than mediocre, maybe because they fixed it ahead of the power outage. Second, we were without power and water for a shower in the morning before we left. First, it is really not a beach hotel as it is almost 2 blocks off the beach. I know this hotel is rated #1, but we had a lot of issues with this hotel. Would I stay there again? definitely, though will be eating in one of the many great restaurants nearby. Again don't let this put you off, just be clear in advance what type of room you want or think you have booked. This is common in Ecuador, the customer is always wrong. We did get this changed, though the front desk staff did try and make it out problem and insisted there were no other rooms, eventually they found us a room (there were loads of free tower rooms, we only saw about 8 other parties at the hotel in our stay). We had booked the modern rooms on though were allocated one cabana room. Things to look out for - there are two types of accommodation at the Ballandra, cabana style rooms and modern rooms in the new towers. That said it is a really nice hotel and we ate out the other three nights and had a great time there. I even made the mistake of believing they could ruin a club sandwich and ordered one by the pool one day, the sandwich was a soggy mess. Don't go there, there are lots of good restaurants in manta and the Martanica serves quality food at the same price. ![]() There was no subtly about the food the seafood crepe came with about 2cm of thick cheese on top and was swimming in a green source that killed the flavours if the seafood. A good restaurant shouldn't ruin a cerviche on the coast, but it was so citrus it was uneatable. Both the restaurant itself and the menu looked good. We used this as we arrived late on our first night. I would certainly not recommend the El Faro restaurant on site. Good facilities, nice swimming pool, which wasn't crowded (though the hotel wasn't busy, I imagine it could be at other times and isn't big for the number of rooms). It is a really nice hotel, very clean and very well maintained. Just finished a 4 night stay at the Ballandra. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
